Easter Weekend

We took a surprise trip to Louisiana this year for Easter and had the best time! Unfortunately, it was due to the passing of Felix's 93 year old grandfather. But, it was great to see everyone and for the kids to be with their cousins. We had a lot of to-do's before we could hit the road on Good Friday, and the Easter Bunny was one of them! Felix was traveling for work, so I loaded the girls up on Wednesday afternoon and took them to see the bunny. Blair had been begging to go. Carter didn't really seem to care one way or the other. She just had this look on her face like "this is ridiculous".

It's a good thing we went to see him because somehow he caught wind that we would not be home on Easter morning. That rabbit is always planning and thinking ahead and decided to drop the girls baskets off on Good Friday. Good thing we got up a little early before school that day ;)

Blair had a busy day at school on Good Friday. First up, was Birthday Chapel. Since Blair was at Disney on her actual birthday, they honored her birthday on Good Friday. This was my first chapel experience, and I LOVED it. By the second song, I needed a kleenex. They may have to kick me out from here on out. Something about those sweet little voices all singing in unison.

After chapel was over, the class Easter egg hunt was well underway. The kids all had an egg hunt outside and then came in for their little party. I have loved being the photo mom this year. I sure hope I get that privilege again next year!

After the partying as over, we loaded up and drove NINE hours to Baton Rouge. Yes, you read correctly. NINE HOURS! I have to admit that the girls did great.  Blair only asked "are we at Harper's house yet" about 1 million times.  Blair was so excited to stay with cousin Harper. She was a big girl and stayed there all by herself while Felix, Carter, and I stayed at the hotel. I don't think she even missed that we were gone. The funeral services were Saturday in New Orleans and then we headed back to Baton Rouge to enjoy the beautiful weather. I don't think my girls knew how to act without their winter coats on. It had snowed in Atlanta only 3 days prior to this!

We had a wonderful Easter Sunday with Felix's family. We went to church that morning and then enjoyed a wonderful lunch and egg hunt at Melissa's brother's house. These cajuns sure know how to fix a good meal! Everyone was so nice to include us in their Easter plans, and Blair had the time of her life. She is the only small child on my side of the family, so she really enjoyed having other kids to play with. I hope they don't mind if we barge in next year...hint, hint!

You would think that would do it, but we had one more thing to squeeze in during our weekend trip.... CRAWFISH! Paw Paw and Gina drove up for dinner, and we feasted on crawfish until I couldn't get any more! Paw Paw came bearing Easter treats for the kids and a king cake  for me.  Take a look at this crew...

We had such a wonderful trip to Louisiana.  Felix had an outstanding grandfather who was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved serving his country, and there is not a day that would go by that he wouldn't remind you of that.  I hope that one day when it's time to honor me that someone can say so many wonderful things about me as they did about Grandpa Bert last Saturday. I know the family will miss him, but we are so happy that he is back with Rosemary! They are for sure living it up once again!
